The Lattice Apple Pie

The lattice apple pie I made last night was quite a hit.

I did not weave the lattices of my apple pie, but I simply laid the horizonatal strips on top of the vertical ones, and then I twisted together the edges of the pie. Over the last year I have created my own style for rolling up the edges of the pie, and this seemed to hold the strips of the lattice work together without having to be woven.

Above are the pictures of the crowd pleasing apple pie that I made from scratch. This is a great way for me to use up the last of the organic apples my mom gave me, which are so much better than the store bought ones. If you love apple pie then you should try making one at home. It is easier than you think!

  1. I like the idea of pie and yours looks beautiful! Maybe I should try making it sometime, but fill it with something less sweet and more fat. I love eating whole apples but am afraid to process them as it increases their sugar content.

    1. These are tart organic apples from my mom’s tree, so even though I add a bit of sugar, it is not as much as a traditional pie filling. I do not add butter like many people do to apple pie filling, but if you wanted to add more fat to the filling, you could do that. The crust has quite a bit of fat in it, though.
